Creating New Reliable Energy Sources
A resort located in a remote area, faced limited access to electricity from the national grid. This resort, spanning 35 million square meters, includes 37 hotel towers, several two‑story double residences, and additional elements for various purposes and social requirements.
The Challenge
The area has seen a growing demand for tourism and housing investment over the decades. Despite this growth, energy availability remains limited due to low industrial and domestic demand. Additionally, the region prioritizes clean energy and self‑sufficient communities. The resort required nearly 6 GWh of energy annually, with a total power demand of 2,6 MW, to support its development.
Our Solution
PRODENSA proposed a cluster approach utilizing unregulated power systems, including photovoltaic (PV) systems, TESLA Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and temporary backup generators. This setup allows the generation, storage, and supply of the required energy at a competitive cost, eliminating the need for a costly connection to the national power grid.
Key components of the solution:
- BESS Configuration: 9 different BESS units, each with a storage capacity ranging from 450 to 1500 kWh.
- PV Systems: 7 PV generating systems with capacities ranging from 150 to 500 kW each, covering a total solar area of 32 000 sqm across 7 locations.
- Backup Generators: Diesel‑powered generation units to provide additional support when needed, designed as temporary units for high efficiency and regulatory compliance.
Financial Plan
The energy costs of this system are expected to be highly competitive compared to the current costs provided by the national grid. The total investment for the system is approximately 9 million EUR, with 90% financed with the help of PRODENSA and a 10% advance payment from the customer. The investment term is 20 years.
- Energy Independence Ensures reliable energy supply regardless of local grid limitations.
- Cost Efficiency Competitive energy costs compared to current grid prices.
- Sustainability Reduced CO2 emissions through the use of PV systems.
- Financial Flexibility 90% financing brought by PRODENSA, easing the financial burden on the customer.
Outcome
This solution enables the resort to operate independently of the limited capabilities of the grid in the area. The PV systems help reduce energy expenditure and CO2 emissions, while the BESS units ensure reliable energy storage. The backup generators provide additional support only when necessary, reducing fuel and other supply costs.
This business case highlights PRODENSA’s ability to provide reliable, cost‑effective, and sustainable power to support operations and growth in locations with scarce/no energy supply.
